Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP)
Chronic Condition Management Plan (CCMP)
-
To access a Medicare rebate for your psychology sessions, you’ll need a referral from your GP, Paediatrician, or Psychiatrist.
Mental Health Treatment Plans are available for a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns. Your treating General Practitioner can help you work out which plan best suits your needs and complete a referral.
-
How the Medicare rebate works
With a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you may be eligible for up to ten (10) subsidised 50-minute psychology sessions per calendar year. These are typically allocated as six (6) initial sessions and four (4) additional sessions.
After your first six sessions, you’ll need to return to your referring GP, Paediatrician, or Psychiatrist for a review before accessing the remaining four sessions.
Please note: the additional COVID-19 related Medicare psychology sessions were removed by the Australian Government as of 1 January 2023.
With a Chronic Condition Management Plan, you may be eligible for up to five (5) subsidised allied health sessions per calendar year.
-
On the day of your appointment, you’ll pay the full session fee. After your session, we’ll process your Medicare rebate for you.
Your rebate will then be automatically refunded back into the bank account linked to your Medicare account, making the process simple and seamless for you.
Medicare
Private Health
-
If you choose to access psychology services through private health insurance, we recommend checking with your health fund prior to your first appointment to confirm what rebates you may be eligible for under your policy.
At the time of your appointment, full payment of the session fee is required. You will then be able to submit your receipt to your private health fund to claim your rebate directly, depending on your level of cover.
Please note that for each consultation, you can only claim a rebate from one source — either Medicare or your private health fund, not both.
